the gambling machine are designed ot get people addicted to them so the casinos or whoever is profiting from them is making a profit. you may win a little bit then think oh well i can win some more then lose $ 50 and think oh well i won some before i can do it again until eventually you are out of money and the casino (or whatever) has won again.

Today there is a new view of addiction. Like you say, the rush and the excitement they get is only for the first phase of addiction. The substance or activity,or gambling, even receiving points in our category, that triggers them must initially cause feelings of pleasure and changes in emotion or mood. After this the body develops a physical tolerance to the substance or activity so that addicts must take ever-larger amounts or more gambling,or more answering,to get the same effects.
Removal of the drug or activity causes painful withdrawal symptoms. Quite apart from physical tolerance, addiction involves physical and psychological dependence associated with craving that is independent of the need to avoid the pain of withdrawal. Addiction always causes changes in the brain and mind. These include physiological changes, chemical changes, anatomical changes, and behavioral changes. Addiction requires a prior experience with a substance or with the addicted activity. The first contact with the substance or activity is an initiation that may or may not lead to addiction, but must occur in order to set in motion the effects in the brain that are likely to encourage a person to try that experience again. Addictions cause repeated behavioral problems, take a lot of a person’s time and energy, are openly sanctioned by the community, and are marked by a gradual obsession with the substance or that activity.Addictions develop their own motivations. For addicts, their tolerance and dependence in and of themselves become reinforcing and rewarding, independent of their actual use of the drug or the activity they may get. One way of understanding this is to analyze what is happening behaviorally in withdrawal. Given that withdrawal is so punishing, why do addicts let themselves go through it more than once? One answer is that the withdrawal, when combined with relapse and returning to the use of the substance or the activity, itself may be rewarding.
Do you know that the animals may have different addictions too ?
Do you know that everyone of us is an addicted to something, in some sense ?

Being an entertainer has nothing to do with being addicted to anything. The only reason you might find MORE entertainers getting addicted to anything, is because they can afford to get addicted.

Unfortunately, if they DO get addicted to something, being an entertainer won’t help them. Drug addicts can still die with an overdose as has happened with countless celebrities. Alcohol abuse still ruins their lives/careers sometimes. And gambling addictions can wipe out their fortunes.
