Is it true you can potentially get emotionally addicted to anything that is pleasant?

Problem by Maria: Is it true you can potentially get emotionally addicted to anything at all that is enjoyable?
I hear about individuals getting addicted to gambling, marijuana, intercourse, the World wide web, relationship, shopping, tv and a lot more. I am starting to suspect that totally something nice is perhaps addictive. Is this true?

yeah sure. enjoyment can always be used as a defense mechanism against sensation unpleasant.

so in a sense, something nice can be employed as a sort of escapism from pain. and if its not managed, you can turn into addicted to it.

Absolutely – we just dont talk about it in other contexts. No one is looked down upon for being addicted to reading or work or gardening or mowing the yard. But ANYTHING that produces pleasure for the person can become emotionally addictive if it is abused, even the things that are generally considered good.

Ever heard the saying, too much of a good thing is a horrible thing? It applies here.
